2. Where the person is missing from.
Jurisdiction will be presumed when the missing person/child resides within the City of Columbus, the event leading to their disappearance occurred within the City of Columbus, or they are missing and suspected to be within the City of Columbus.
3. If the person is missing from any governmental or custodial institution or group home that is affiliated with Franklin County Children's Services, the reporting person shall complete an approved report and fax it to the Columbus Police Records Unit.
4. If cruiser response is necessary, determine:
a. If the person has been missing before.
b. Location where missing person last seen or where now supposed to be.
c. How long the person has been missing.
d. A complete description, age any known associates of the missing person.
5. If the missing person meets one of these high risk criteria which require a search, create an incident for dispatch using the sub type of "High Risk."
a. 10 years old or younger
b. 65 years old or older and believed to be at risk
c. of Diminished capacity and believed to be at risk
d. Believed to be in danger, or a victim of foul play or suspicious circumstances.
e. Per the Special Victims Unit, refer to all missing persons as a "Runaway/Missing" in
the incident narrative. Do not refer to the person simply as a runaway. Not all high
risk missing persons are runaways.
6. Obtain the name, address and telephone number of the caller.
7. Notify the on-duty 911 ECS of any high risk missing person.
